Raymond J. Bumbera

BUMBERA – Raymond J., 70, Johnstown, died Aug. 20, 2014, at the Lutheran Home of Johnstown. Born Jan. 1, 1944, in Johnstown, the son of Andrew and Cecilia (Balashazi) Bumbera. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his children, Jeanine, wife of Ralph Perkins; Christel Bumbera, and partner, Steve Berko; and Caroline Bumbera, all of Virginia; grandchildren, Kyle and Ashley Perkins, Camille Bumbera and Ethan Bumbera. Raymond is the brother of Robert, married to the former Carol Suver, New Jersey; Sylvia, wife of Ron Goff, Johnstown; and Michael, married to the former Mary Pothoff, Monroeville. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Raymond was a 1961 graduate of Johnstown High School and was retired from the tire department of Sears. A member of St. Therese Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, the Rev. Bernard Karmanocky, OFM, officiating. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of Transfer Prayers at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad St. Committal will take place at St. Francis Cemetery. MARTIN– Eva Irene, 98, Nanty Glo, journeyed home to be with our Lord Aug. 20, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center.  Born Feb. 14, 1916, in Centerville, Iowa, daughter of the late John and Eva (Budvessel) Yanche.  Preceded in death by husband, Jose Alves Martin; daughter, Mary Noel; son, John; sisters, Emma Borczyk, Helen Gresko, Mary Gaydos and Anna Ostafine; and brothers,  Andrew, George, John and Michael Yanche.  Survived by children, Carmen Anderson, Johnstown; Dorothy Martin and Joseph Martin, both of Nanty Glo; Camille, wife of Wayne Helsel, Big Cove Tannery; Robert Martin, Nanty Glo; and Anne, wife of Michael Solarz, Indiana, Pa.  Also 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and brother, Frank Yanche, Hillsdale.  Member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Nanty Glo.  She enjoyed watching cooking shows and Lawrence Welk, and attending family gatherings.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  A devoted Roman Catholic, she prayed the  Rosary every day.  Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo, followed by funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant.  Committal at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eva’s memory to St. Mary’s Church or by way of  spiritual bouquets and Masses.

GUENNEL– Arlene L., 85, Johnstown, passed away Aug. 20, 2014, at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 17, 1928, in Scranton, Pa., daughter of Gustav and Edith (Scherer) Guennel. Preceded in death by her parents; nephews, David Morrell and Tommy Scherer; and three sisters. Survived by loving sister, Elsie Scherer, Johnstown; loving nieces and nephews, John Morrell, Diane Lavery, Mary Catherine Bennett, William Richards, Robert Richards, Deborah Neisner, Michael Scherer, Peggy Bimeal, Arlene Grabusnick, William Scherer, Donna Shirt and Dawn Pringle; and numerous great- and great-great-nephews and -nieces. Arlene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Retired bookkeeper with 33 years’ service from Sani-Dairy. A huge Pirates and Penguins fan. Arlene loved cats. ROBERTS– Roger, 57, Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Portage, passed away Aug. 18, 2014. Born Jan. 7, 1957, in Johnstown, the son of  Vernon and Arlene (Russler) Roberts. Deceased family members include his parents and brother, Gordon Roberts. Survived by children, Tracie Roberts and Justin Roberts,  both of Sarasota; Amanda Roberts, Portage; and Trevor Roberts, Colorado; and grandchildren, Savannah Roberts and Skyla Kline. Brother of James Roberts, married to the former Joyce Wilson, Portage. At Roger’s request, there will be no public viewing, but family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg, Pastor Kevin McNamara, officiating. DEMCHAK – George, 93, West End, died Aug. 20, 2014, at Arbutus Park Manor. Born April 24, 1921, in Johnstown, son of John and Mary Demchak. Preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Anna (Hrivnak) Demchak. Survived by his children, George J., married to former Linda Younker, Johnstown; Robert G. Demchak, Greenacres, Fla.; Donald R., married to former Marjorie Robinson, Johnstown; and Diane, wife of Ronald Boerstler, Johnstown; grandchildren, Julie (Vince) Luszik; Andy (Melodee) Demchak;  Alisha Boerstler; and Deanna Boerstler; great-grandson, Sammy Luszik; and sisters, Anna Hrivnak and Mary Naugle. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. A life member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. GOUNARIS – Charles Edward Sr., 83, Lower Yoder Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Aug. 20, 2014. Born Dec. 26, 1930, son of John Gounaris and Anna (Gladis) Doria. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Deborah (Gounaris) Davis; and sister, Julia Arcuri. Survived by his wife, Theresa (Zucco), with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on Sept. 11; children, Charles Edward Gounaris Jr., Pittsburgh; Richard, and wife, Darlene (Terek) Gounaris, Phoenix, Ariz.; Terri Gounaris, Johnstown; and Christina, and husband, Mike Galasso, Johnstown; grandchildren, Jessica (Aaron) Duke, Ashley Gounaris, Sarah (Ron) Hrovosky, Tiffany (Michael) Schreppler, Richard C. Gounaris, Chip, Graham and Shane Davis, Hayley and Sean Butler, Julie and Nicholas Yost and Lexi and Brandon Galasso; and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Jim Gounaris; sisters, Joann Cross,  Grace Knieriemen and Mary Puleo; and sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Repak, Virginia Lenzi and Karen Zucco. “Chuck” was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church.  He served in the Army as a corporal during the Korean War and was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 0294, and was a retiree of Bethlehem Steel Corp. Above all, Chuck was a loving and devoted family man who cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He also had a devout faith in God and prayed to the Blessed Mother every day. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moskal-Reid Funeral Home, where Panachida will be held at 4 p.m. Friday. Hill; daughter, Patricia Gregory; son, Frank M. Ashcom Jr.; an infant granddaughter; brothers, John and Stamford Richardson; infant brother, Charles Richardson; and sister, Martha Potts.  Survived by husband, Frank M. Ashcom, New Florence; daughter, Sandra Lee Tincher, Michigan City, Ind.; grandchildren, Robert Gregory, and wife, Debbie, Somerset; Michael S. Preceded in death by parents; husband, John Nosal Jr.; sister, Dorothy A. Smakula; and brother, Joseph Ponczek, and wife, Sophie (Poborski). Survived by sister, Frances, wife of Pete Petro, Windber, and brother, Edward Paczek, married to former Janet (Rosage), Dunkirk, Md. Also survived by special niece and caregiver, Loretta Smakula, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Retired employee of Bestform Foundations, Industrial Park, and former employee of Bali Bra, Geistown. Member of ILGWU (UNITE) and the Conemaugh PNA. Also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Windber, where Sophie was a member of the church rosary society and where she helped at the church fish fries and festivals and where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. BIAGI – Lina (Lenzi), 96, Paramus, N.J., died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014. Born in Sewickley, Lina had resided in Hawthorne, N.J., for 25 years before moving to Paramus. A former seamstress in the Newark, N.J., area, Lina had been a member of the ILGWU, the Hawthorne VFW Women’s auxiliary and a former member of the Hawthorne Seniors. Lina Biagi was the beloved wife of both the late Ilvano Galardi (1981) and David Biagi (2012). Dear aunt of Daniel Lenzi, Johnstown; James Lenzi, Somerset; Darlene Keytack, Johnstown; Susan Seitz, Mechanicsburg; and Kathleen Lenzi Mascelli, Alexandria, Va. Sister-in-law of Virginia Lenzi, Johnstown. Former ward and friend of Paul Roberts, Glen Rock. FRAMPTON – William D., 60, Flinton, formerly of Johnstown, passed away Aug. 19, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 28, 1954, son of Wilbur E. Frampton and Dolores (Kovach). Preceded in death by his father; infant sister, Mary Ellen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sam and Emma Sunseri; brother-in-law, Sammy Sunseri; and faithful dog, Auger. Survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mariann (Sunseri); son, Chris; daughter, Jenna; two grandchildren, Lucas and Ava; mother, Dolores Kovach; brothers, Tom, Danny and Jamie Frampton; sisters, Debi Frampton, and Carol Lee, wife of Paul Rosslan; numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly; sisters-in-law, Carole Felton, Debby (Tom) Callihan and Roseann (Rich) Layton; and brother-in-law, Domenic (Susan) Sunseri. Bill retired from Spangler Subaru as service manager and worked at various dealerships throughout his life. He loved to restore cars and ride motorcycles. He built his own Ultra Lite and flew it. He also retired from 1st 103rd Armor with 23 years. He had many friends who loved and respected him. He had a special sense of humor. Bill was a dedicated husband and father who put his family first and will be sadly missed. Preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Sarah (Walk) Maines; husband, Joseph Meray; sons, Earl and Charles Meray; grandchildren, Greg Meray and Valerie Gaston; brother, Kenneth Maines; and sister, Zella Hilliard. Survived by children, Robert (Ruth) Meray, Northern Cambria; Dolores Shahan, Colonial Beach, Va.; Gail (Keith) Bailey; and Timothy (Mary) Meray, Northern Cambria.  Also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mary attended North End Assembly of God Church, was formerly a member of Barnesboro VFW ladies auxiliary and enjoyed quilting, crafts, cooking and baking. Arnie was a 1956 graduate of Franklin High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran from 1958 to 1965, and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Arnie retired in 2000 from Bethlehem Steel, Freight Car Division, after 36 years of service as an electrical crew leader. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and Greater Johnstown Saddle Club. Arnie enjoyed hunting, riding his horses and walks with his grandsons. He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father and pappy, who will be missed dearly. McFEATERS – Doris Irene, 98, formerly of Johnstown, died Aug. 19, 2014, at Frostburg Village, Frostburg, Md.  She was born in Johnstown, daughter of the late Robert and Lilian (Trudgion) Tremain.  Preceded in death by loving  husband of 41 years, George, who died in 1987;  brothers, Robert, Thomas and George; and sisters, Lilian and Clara.  Survived by children, Joel, married to Dr. Anthony Bollino, La Vale, Md.; Joyce, married to Terry Garlitz, Grantsville, Md.; and Robert McFeaters, married to Karen Jennings, Wyomissing. SALAS – Patricia Ann (Martinek), 70, Johnstown, entered into her eternal life in heaven Aug. 18, 2014, at Cambria Care Center after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born Dec. 23, 1943, in Johnstown, daughter of Andrew and Margaret Martinek. Preceded in death by parents, and brothers, Steve and John Martinek. Survived by children, Denise Hillegass (Jerry), Bedford; Brian (Diana), Johnstown; Linda (Russell) Rager, Johnstown; and Julius (Michelle) Salas Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret “Tootsie” Pasierb; Tina (James) Buksa, both of Johnstown; Sister Margaret Alice, OSF, Alabama; Betty Ribblett, Nevada; and Mary Lorditch, New York; brothers, Andrew “Sonny” (Dorina), Pennsylvania, and Edward (Barbara), Johnstown; former husband, Julius F. BERRY – Wesley Houston Jr., 57, Johnstown, ”Buckie” to those who knew him in his younger days, then preferred the name Wesley, died Aug. 17, 2014.  He was born Sept. 30, 1956, in Johnstown, son of the late Wesley H. Sr. and Dorothy L. (Jones) Berry.  Preceded in death by sister, Florence (Berry) Herring.  Survived by siblings, Michael; Denise Grayson, and husband, Carl; and Yvonne Woodard, and aunts and uncles, Jonesy and Louise; Thelma, Donald and Arlene; Betty and Avaline, and her friend, Mike Lockwood. Also survived by nephews and nieces, David; Devlin, and wife, Sonya; Dorian; Damien; Tina, and husband, Paul; Margaret; and Elisa; and 13 great-nephews and nieces, to whom Wesley was a loving and playful uncle. POPOVICH – Anita (Smylnycky), 62, Ebensburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Aug. 18, 2014, at home. Born April 15, 1952, in Colver, daughter of John and Irene (Maccagno) Smylnycky. Preceded in death by her father, and father and mother-in-law, John and Irene Popovich. Survived by mother, Irene, Colver; husband, Robert, to whom she was married 37 years; daughters, Emily, wife of Jason Tiani, Glen Burnie, Md., and Anne Popovich, Charleston, S.C.; and granddaughters, Brenna Tiani and Jada Cutler. Also survived by sister and special caregiver, Susan (Rickie) Datsko, Colver, and sisters-in-law, Charlotte McFadden, Judy (Dennis) Vokin and Kate (Jeff) Link, all of Ebensburg, and Barbara Lynn (Eric) Scott, Harrisburg, who all assisted in her time of illness, and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks also is extended to neighbors, Bob and Susan Dixon and Bob and Roxanne McHugh for their compassion and kindness. Anita exemplified a continuous zest for life, whether it be shown in her beautiful smile, her uplifting words or her generous heart. Anita lit up a room dressed head to toe in her adorning jewels and size four and a half high heels. Anita was known to go above and beyond in all her work and life passions. She was able to tackle and take on the ring leader position of any challenge or opportunity that came her way. Anita had a heart of gold and was always reaching out her loving hand to all those who passed throughout her life. Anita loved to be in the midst of action and surrounded by large groups of people, with her family being the most important loves of her life. Anita loved her mother’s homemade Italian cooking, her shared family beach house in St. Augustine, Fla., dancing the night away in her little black dress and devoting her life to prayer, faith and St. Theresa. She also enjoyed “quiet” evenings at home with her loving husband, providing her two girls the best that this world has to offer, and shared secrets and long conversations with her only sister and best friend. Anita lives inside the hearts of all those who were apart of her life, leaving each one a little brighter, stronger and more loving.  She was a member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering for the Carmelite Sisters in Loretto. Anita was employed as director of marketing and purchasing for U.S. Foods (Sky Brothers) in Altoona for 34 years. Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held.  Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. DURST – Mary Elizabeth “Beth,” 63, Meyersdale, died peacefully Aug. 16, 2014, after a short illness. She is survived by her husband, Donald, and son, Christopher. She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis R. Mapes, and brother, Patrick. She was born May 18, 1951, in Somerset, and is the daughter of Susan A. Mapes. She is survived locally by brothers, David (Beth), Stephen (Dawn) and Christopher; sisters, Rebecca and Margaret “Peg” (John) Critchfield, Somerset; brothers, Timothy (Roxann),  Berlin, and James, Lake Tahoe, Calif.; sisters, Linda Whorton (Robert), Azle, Texas, and Patricia Madey (Richard), Harrisburg. There are 12 nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Somerset Licensed Practical Nursing School and was employed by Somerset Hospital and most recently Golden Living Center, Meyersdale. The Mapes family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Conemaugh Health System, Crichton Center and Golden Living Center for their care of our daughter/sister during her illness.

Deceased family members include his parents, and grandparents, Russell and Laura Barefoot whom he adored, formerly of Ebensburg. Also preceded in death by father-in-law, Darwin Dornburg, and two canine pets, Babe and Lady. Survived by loving wife of  27 years, Debra (Dornburg) Barefoot, and his faithful canine companion, Princess (Cess). Brother of Michael (Barbara) Barefoot, Boiling Springs; David Barefoot, Florida; Diana (Ken) Nichals, North Las Vegas; Mary Ellen Young, Pasadena, Md.; Thomas (Christine) Barefoot, Newville; and George (Kathy) Barefoot, Fla. Also survived by niece, Jessica; nephews, Andrew, Matthew, Shawn and Brandon; mother-in-law, Arlene Dornburg; brother-in-law, Dale (Jodi) Dornburg; sister-in-law, Pamela (Peter) Ellwein; and several dear neighbors, friends and co-workers. Formerly employed for 16 years at The Mall of America, Bloomington, Minn., and several years for Paul Kim at Central Tank and Tower. He proudly served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for six years in the 863rd Engineering Battalion, with six years of call back duty. He loved playing the drums, and enjoyed Steelers football, hunting, fishing, reminiscing, dancing and video taping weddings. Also participated in timed fire competition at shooting bowling pins with 45 and 22 caliber pistols at Burnsville, Minn., pistol range. SMITH – Barry W., 69, Johnstown, passed away Aug. 17, 2014, at Rosewood Personal Care.  Born April 20, 1945, in Indiana, son of late Clarence and Julia Claire (Walbeck) Smith.  Also preceded in death by sister, Norma Jean Palmer, and brother, Gary Smith. Barry was a retired employee of Hiram G. Andrews Center, Johnstown, where he continued to work as a volunteer to help with student activities.  Barry enjoyed fishing, especially with staff and students at the center, and yearly fishing trips to Potter County with friends. He loved to collect trinkets that nobody else wanted and found delight in shopping at flea markets and second-hand stores. He enjoyed listening to his country western music favorites, Charlie Pride, Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash.   Watching movies was a favorite past time, admiring the movies of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.  Barry enjoyed the freedom of travel on CamTran and lived life with the help of special friends and acquaintances.  He was a kind and good-hearted person who touched the lives of many people.  Barry was a true friend to all who knew him and was willing to help anyone, whether it was a stranger or someone he knew.  His smile, witty personality and his unconditional love for people will always be remembered by many. Resided at Rosewood Personal Care, Barry was cared for by a staff of caring and compassionate people. He also was blessed with special care of staff from Windber Hospice. COOK – Betty Jane, 91, Salisbury, was born into eternal life Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry I. Cook. Born July 2, 1923, in Salisbury, daughter of the late Charles and Maude (Beale) Koontz. Mrs. Cook was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and worked at Meyersdale Manufacturing Co. until her retirement. She enjoyed spending her time, after retirement, crocheting and watching her favorite soap operas. She had been a member of Salisbury American Legion auxiliary, Salisbury Hospital auxiliary and Salisbury Fire ladies auxiliary. Surviving is a daughter, Patricia Ann Brant, and husband, William, Kingwood, Texas; a son, H. William Cook, and wife, MaryJane, Gettysburg; six grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, Heidi, Rhonda, Vaughn and Jeremie; and nine great-grandchildren, Alexander, Brianna, Christine, Molly, Annalina, William Patrick, Makayla, Joann and Jonathan. MAUGER – Steve J., 85, Lititz, passed away at Moravian Manor on Aug. 18, 2014.  Born in Cairnbrook, he was the son of the late George and Anna Zatkovich Mauger. He was married for 43 years to the late Helen D. Hornick Mauger (2000). He was a graduate of Shade High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Prior to his retirement, Steve was a machinist for Alcoa. Steve was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Lititz, and an avid Phillies fan. He enjoyed fly fishing and hunting. A quiet man, he enjoyed spending his Sunday evenings with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Karen, wife of Todd Brenner, Lititz; Joanne, wife of Robert Jesberg, Lititz; and Steve, husband of Betty Stoe, Newmanstown; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Anne Arpino, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Helen Palumbo, North Massapequa, N.Y.; Paul Mauger, Cleveland, Ohio; and Catherine Lomeli, Naples, Fla.  He is preceded in death by five brothers. PARKINS – Timothy J., 66, Ebensburg, passed away peacefully Aug. 17, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.  Born Aug. 25, 1947, in Colver, son of the late Joseph and Ophelia (LaGana) Parkins. Survived by wife, former Evelyn Hullihen, to whom he was married 38 years, and son, Bradley, married to former Tina Mauk, at home. Tim was a retired chef, having been employed at Juniata College, Huntingdon, and various restaurants throughout his career. In his younger years growing up in Ebensburg, he had been a member of former Cambria Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.  An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he had served from 1967 to 1973, and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Overseas Service Ribbon. BYRNE – Louise M., 85, Ebensburg R.D., died Aug. 16, 2014. Born Feb. 25, 1929, in Patton, daughter of the late Peter and Cecelia (Long) Holtz. Preceded in death by husband, Leroy, on June 26, 1988; son, Victor; son-in-law, Robert Mahute; and these brothers and sisters, Bernard, Regis, Dorothy Greiner, Betty Elliott, Rose Farabaugh, Rita Bender, Anna  Marie Carlson, Ray, Ralph, Evelyn McGough, Cleophas and Kenneth. Survived by children, Eileen McMullen (Jim), Ashville R.D.; Joan Mahute; Bob (Sandy Mahute); Joyce Byrne; Steve (Jeannie Grata); Wendy Biter (Rick); and Jenni Shoemaker (Dave), all of Ebensburg R.D.; 31 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Loretta Safko, Hollidaysburg, and Hilda Wils, Altoona; and sisters-in-law, Florence Holtz, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Mary Louise Holtz, Patton R.D. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Member of the Legion of Mary, the choir and Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, Loretto. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Chapel at St. Francis University at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Monsignor Timothy Swope, celebrant, due to construction at the Basilica. HICKS – David M. Jr., 53, Seward, passed away unexpectedly at home Aug. 16, 2014.  Born Sept. 11, 1960, in Johnstown, son of the late David M. Hicks Sr. and Betty L. (Given) Boring, and her late husband, Frank E. Boring.  Survived by wife, Patricia (Crooks) Hicks; children, Deanne Hicks, Roanoke, Va.; Lauren Hicks, St. Mary’s; and Richard Hicks, Seward; grandchildren, Kiasiaa, Keshaun and Jalyssa Hicks, Roanoke, Va.; Landon Adamsky, Seward; Ashlyn Graf, St. Mary’s; and Peyton Hicks, Seward; brother, Robert S. Hicks, and wife, Kelly (Goodlin), New Florence; sisters, Michele (Hicks) Ritenour, and husband, Mike, Johnstown, and Amy Jo (Boring) Dailey, and husband, Kevin, Latrobe; and several nieces, nephews and extended family. Dave was an avid fisherman, reader and enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren and working on computers.  His grandchildren meant everything to him.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, 392 E. Philadelphia St., Armagh, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Capt. Brother of James S., Portage; Cindy, wife of Richard Tarachko, Portage; and Terry Farren, and special friend, Alan Fornari, Altoona, and little sister, Shannon (Todd) Descavich. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and best friend, Jay Kostan. Member of Portage Church of the Nazarene, AMVETS, American Legion and VFW. Preceded in death by parents; first husband, William Stephenson Sr.; husband, John Cominsky; and brother, Dewey Rolley. Survived by sons, Jack Stephenson, and wife, Virginia, and William Stephenson Jr., and wife, Barbara, both of Johnstown; grandchildren, Chris, Devan, Jennifer and Joshua; and great-grandchildren, Halen, Koda, Jayden and Sarah. Sister of Elsie Maines and Robert and Carl Rolley, all of Johnstown, and William Rolley, Virginia. Retired owner and proprietor of Mom’s Diner and Mom’s Mini Mart. McDERMOTT – Linda Jean (Buck), 71, Geneva, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Born March 16, 1943, in Johnstown, to parents Robert K. and Velma C. (Holzapfel) Buck. She was a 1961 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School and a recent retiree of CNA Insurance Co. of Orlando, Fla. Preceded in death by her parents and son, Bryon K. McDermott. Survived by her brother, Kenneth G. Buck, and sister, Sharlene J. Buck, both of Johnstown; son, Thomas R. McDermott, Altamonte Springs, Fla.; daughter, Lisa M. (McDermott) Bennett, wife of Chad Bennett, Maitland, Fla.; grandchildren, Brent T. McDermott and Robert P. McDermott, both of Johnstown; and Brandon D. Bennett and Brianna M. Bennett, both of Maitland, Fla.; and close companion, Preston F. Bryant, Geneva, Fla. A celebration of life was held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Hospice of the Comforter, 605 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Fla. 32714.
