Melvin Dorta knocked in Brian Finegan for the first run of the game, then Jonel Pacheco quickly followed by hitting a two-run home run, his sixth of the year, which put Altoona up 3-0.
After Akron scored an unearned run in the fifth, Chris Hernandez allowed a solo home run to Armando Camacaro in the top of the seventh inning, but was able to hold the fort to secure his fourth save of the season.
In the first game of the afternoon, Akron used a steller pitching performance from southpaw David Huff to claim victory. Huff (3-3) allowed only three hits over seven shutout innings en route to a 3-0 Aeros win.
