High School Softball
Johnstown 3, Richland 0
The visiting Trojans plated all of their runs in the sixth inning en route to a victory over Richland on Tuesday.
Megan McMillen struck out eight and allowed only two Rams hits while also scoring a run. Courtney Blank was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Lauren Kuhne’s tripled for the Rams.
Blacklick Valley 7, Ferndale 4
NANTY GLO – Pitcher Lauren Wiegman had two hits and Vikings teammate Megan Thomas also collected a pair of hits as Blacklick Valley trumped Ferndale.
The Yellow Jackets’ Brittany Eisenhuth went 3-for-3.
Forest Hills 4, B. Guilfoyle 0
SIDMAN – Rangers hurler Nicole Smith struck out 10 batters while teammates Gab Mickus (two hits) and Lindsey Schaffranek had two RBIs apiece as Forest Hills blanked Bishop Guilfoyle.
The Marauders’ Miranda Merilli struck out eight in the loss.
Laurel Valley 11, Penns Manor 0
NEW FLORENCE – The Rams plated nine runs in the first and tallied single runs in the second and fourth innings en route to a five-inning win over Penns Manor.
Marlyce Lowery had four RBIs to lead Laurel Valley while Casey Wynn drove in two runs and Chrissey Millberg had two hits and scored twice.
Portage 9, C. Township 4
DAVIDSVILLE – Brandi Chappell struck out 10 while scattering five hits and four walks as Portage beat Conemaugh Township.
Sarah Myers went 2-for-4 and scored twice for the Mustangs while losing pitcher Nicole Bacon went 3-for-4 to pace the Indians.
Bedford 10, Cambria Heights 7
PATTON – Five Bisons had two hits apiece in a win over Cambria Heights.
Macy Replogle, Kayla Stickel, Kristianne Nave, Bridget Heidorn and Crystal Dibert each collected a pair of hits with Stickel also tallying a homer for Bedford.
Alyssa Anna homered for the Highlanders and teammate Courtney Wendekier had three hits.
Westmont 10, Bishop McCort 0
Host Westmont celebrated its senior day in style with a five-inning win over Bishop McCort.
Senior Kayla Jones had two hits and two RBIs and teammate Ashley Strack went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Sam Bonito was 2-for-2 and drove in the game-ending run in the fifth while pitcher Shauna Hetrick limited the Crimson Crushers to one hit by Emily Petrowsky in the second.
Berlin 9, Shade 7
CAIRNBROOK – Emily Lynch scored twice for Berlin in a win over Shade. Haley Albright doubled for the Mountaineers.
The Panthers’ Kristen Corradini was 4-for-4 while Casey Roberts was 2-for-3.
Somerset 6, Bishop Carroll 5
SOMERSET – Amanda Nicastro and Autumn Yoder delivered run-scoring singles in the bottom of the seventh as Somerset rallied to beat Bishop Carroll.
Nicastro had three hits and two RBIs while Yoder added two hits. Nicole Shaffer tripled and drove in a pair of runs while Jacy Walker had a double and two RBIs.
Sid Maurer went 3-for-3 with a double for Bishop Carroll. Lexi Crookshank had two hits.
North Star 6, C. Valley 2
Stephanie Cavallo and Brittany Danel combined to throw a no-hitter as North Star topped host Conemaugh Valley.
Cathy Maust had three hits and Kelsey Rice added a pair for the Cougars.
Carolyn Sharpe and Leah Borow scored for the Blue Jays.
Rockwood 13, Turkeyfoot 12
ROCKWOOD – Freshman Leah Clay went 2-for-3 and cracked a game-winning two-run double on a full-count pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Rockwood over Turkeyfoot Valley.
Becca Foreman went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, Kelsey Pletcher was 2-for-4 with a triple and three thefts and Courtney Mitchell was 3-for-4 with three stolen bases for Rockwood.
Turkeyfoot’s Renee Nickelson had a triple and a fourth-inning grand slam. Losing pitcher Kami Koscheck went 3-for-3.
High School Baseball
Ferndale 6, Blacklick Valley 5
NANTY GLO – Tanner Kulback and Sam Mahon each had a pair of hits to lead Ferndale over Blacklick Valley.
Mahon also had two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets, who broke a 5-all tie in the seventh.
The Vikings’ Mike McDermott was 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Nate Paul went 3-for-4 for the hosts.
C. Cambria 10, P. Cambria 0
EBENSBURG – Eric Nalisnick struck out 11 in a six-inning game, giving up just one hit while blanking Penn Cambria.
Adam Petrosky had three hits for the Red Devils while teammates Shane McGregor and Nate Stephens had two hits each.
C. Township 12, Portage 2
DAVIDSVILLE – Mike Sprowl struck out 11 batters and homered twice as the Indians beat the Mustangs in six innings to clinch the WestPAC North title.
Sprowl swatted a solo homer in the fifth inning and followed with a three-run homer in the sixth.
Kyle Zambanini (five RBIs), Tom Kapcsos and Nick Croyle each had two hits for the hosts.
Jade Zatek and Mike Sinosky scored a run apiece for Portage.
North Star 16, C. Valley 4
The Cougars had two hits from Kyle Bowser and Mike Knisley in a six-inning win over host Conemaugh Valley.
Bowser drove in four runs and Knisley had three RBIs.
Chris Katawczik’s two hits and three RBIs led Conemaugh Valley, which received two hits from Jim Britton.
Shade 24, Berlin 0
CAIRNBROOK – Dan Houpt hit a first-inning grand slam and had seven RBIs as Shade defeated Berlin in three innings.
Wayne Deneen had three hits and five RBIs in the win.
Alex Will had Berlin’s lone hit – a single in the second.
Somerset 13, Bishop Carroll 5
EBENSBURG – An eight-run fifth inning proved to be the difference in the Golden Eagles’ win over Bishop Carroll.
Joe Foltz, Tyler Hayman, Ryan Fisher and Cole Christner each had two hits for Somerset.
Aron Wilson and Robbie Maruca each homered for the Huskies.
Johnstown 8, Richland 5
Greater Johnstown used a seven-run outburst in the fifth inning at Roxbury Park to post a .500 record and qualify for the District 6 playoffs.
Matt McMillen had two hits and an RBI for Johnstown, which got a hit and two RBIs each from Mike Jackson and Zak Henry.
Russell Gray and Bobby Carbaugh had home runs for Richland, and Dan Fenton and Dan Barefoot each had two hits.
Bishop McCort 8, Westmont 3
Host Bishop McCort scored five runs in the first inning and tacked on three more in the sixth in support of Zak Boyd’s complete-game effort at Point Stadium.
Colin Harrington had a three-run homer and scored twice for Bishop McCort, which also received a pair of RBIs from Zac Vignero.
Alex Pozun and Max Smeal each had two hits for the Hilltoppers.
