In brief: Charges pending in prison assaults

SOMERSET —
Charges are pending against two inmates at State Correctional Institution-Somerset accused of assaulting two corrections officers.
Anthony Herrera, 21, and Yokoe Yabbah, 31, were separately engaging in a recreational period when Yabbah got into an altercation with another inmate Thursday. As staff members tried to intervene, Yabbah struck a corrections officer, state police said.
Staff members were returning the remaining inmates to their cells when Herrera struck another corrections officer, police said.
Both corrections officers were treated for minor injuries at the facility and returned to duty.
The inmate who was in an altercation with Yabbah will not be charged, police said.
Somerset man hurt in crash
SOMERSET – Michael R. Maul, 22, of Somerset received major injuries Saturday night when his car hit a guide rail and rolled down an embankment on Somerset Pike in Lincoln Township, state police reported.
Maul was taken to Memorial Medical Center and later cited with driving at an unsafe speed.
Bowser Road closing in Clyde area
CLYDE – PennDOT Engineering District 10 is advising motorists that T-910 (Bowser Road) will be closed at the state Route 22 intersection today and is not expected to reopen until mid-December.
Traffic will follow Route 22 to Route 259 south back to Bowser Road. Motorists should anticipate traffic delays and be prepared to stop, PennDOT said.
Bowser Road is being closed as part of the $50.8 million Clyde project on Route 22.
Bridge reopens a month early
EBENSBURG – Work on the Route 1036 (Rowena Drive) Lake Rowena bridge over Howell’s Run in Ebensburg opened Monday, nearly a month ahead of schedule.
Charles J. Merlo Inc. of Mineral Point was the contractor on this $1.1 million project, which began in June.
The project was completed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funding.
Hospital employees’ ideas on display
Employees’ latest ideas to improve patient care and the hospital environment will be on display today at several Conemaugh Health System locations.
Various hospital departments have created “thinking trees” to illustrate their creative brainstorming.
“Employees are encouraged to consistently look for new and better ways to provide our patients with ‘excellence; every patient; every time’,” spokeswoman Amy Bradley said. “Ideas that have helped cut expenses, save energy and most importantly ideas that will help our patients be safer, more comfortable and pleased with their experience.”
Results will be unveiled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Medical Center main campus atrium. Displays also will be set up at Miners Medical Center and Meyersdale Medical Center.
