Ohio man accused of assaulting pregnant woman

By PATRICK BUCHNOWSKI
The Tribune-Democrat

An Ohio man was jailed Friday after authorities said he assaulted a woman who was nine months pregnant.

Gregory McMullen, 30, of Akron was arrested by Johns-town police, who had to kick open a door to get inside the home in the 1000 block of Boyd Avenue where the incident occurred.

Someone had telephoned authorities and reported hearing glass breaking and two people arguing for more than an hour.

Police said that when they arrived, they found McMullen on top of a woman slamming her head to the floor as she screamed for help.

Officers kicked open the door, pulled McMullen away from the woman and placed him in handcuffs.

Police said they attempted to help McMullen from the ground but he refused to stand and was shot with a Taser.

McMullen was charged with two counts each of aggravated and simple assault, and single counts of unlawful restraint, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and harassment.

McMullen was arraigned by District Judge Michael Musulin of Johnstown, the on-call magistrate, and sent to the Cambria County Prison after failing to post $50,000 bond.

An ambulance was called for the woman, who police said was bleeding from the mouth. The left side of her face and her eye were severely swollen and bloody, police said.
