Music mania | JAHA puts finishing touches on 15th annual FolkFest
Johnstown FolkFest 2008 will bring a symphony of sound to the downtown. The festival, celebrating its 15th year of being solely produced by Johnstown Area Heritage Association, will be held from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to 12:30 a.m. Saturday and noon to midnight Aug. 31 at Festival Park, 90 Johns St. in downtown Johnstown.
Federal law forces CamTran to alter FolkFest bus schedule
Limited free bus transportation to Johnstown FolkFest will be available this year, but the word shuttle is taboo. According to Jim Parks, director of operations for CamTran, a new federal law that regulates the chartering of public bus systems has caused some changes in the transportation system. CamTran will provide limited free transit service between FolkFest and the Cambria City Ethnic Festival along existing bus routes.
Only scrip accepted for food; help sought for cleanup
While Johnstown FolkFest is all about music, the accompanying food can hit the right note. Shelley Johansson, marketing director of Johnstown Area Heritage Association, which sponsors FolkFest, said her personal favorite is South Carolina Barbecue, which offers ribs, smoked turkey, barbecue sandwiches, yams and collard greens.
Organizer: Ethnic fest a sentimental journey
Call it a gigantic block party or a homecoming, organizers are eager to welcome visitors to the annual Cambria City Ethnic Festival on Labor Day weekend for a festive event. Food, music, dancing and children’s activities will be held Friday through Aug. 31 at various churches and venues throughout the historic Cambria City section of Johnstown.
