SUCCESS STORIES | Exchange students take part in field trip

Six foreign-exchange students have participated in P.E.A.C.E. Student Ambassadors program. The students took an educational field trip to Arlington, Jamestown, Williamsburg and Norfolk in Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The exchange students are:

Mingming Zhou, who is attending Blacklick Valley High School, Nanty Glo, and living with George and Debra Younkin of Nanty Glo.

Zurab Barkalaia, attending Blacklick Valley High School, living with Jacob and Linda Beiler of Nicktown.

Christian Chapa, attending Blacklick Valley High School, living with Georgia Kish of Ebensburg.

Maria Gamboa, attending Penn Cambria High School, Cresson, living with Jack and Tammy Rhoades of Ashville.

Stephanie Bautista, attending Central Cambria High School, Ebensburg, living with Jill Gittings of Ebensburg.

Lyn Monagas, attending Blacklick Valley High School, living with Marc and Karen Conzo of Belsano.

The trip was concluded with an award’s banquet to honor outstanding students as well as all students who participated in the arts, academics, athletics, church and community services, and public speaking.

Richland graduate studies abroad

Trever Sweatt, a 2004 graduate of Richland Senior High School, has completed the Temple University Japan Program.

Sweatt, the grandson of Dorothy Dishong of Richland Township, received a degree in Japanese and an Asian studies certificate.

He also taught English to Japanese students at Temple University.

He is continuing his education at the University of Pittsburgh, where he is majoring in pre-med and biology.

Local Masonic leader gets highest honor

Thomas J. Hubbard of Hollsopple has received the thirty-third degree, the highest honor of Scottish Rite Freemasonry.

The degree is awarded for outstanding service to Freemasonry or for significant contributions to humanity that reflect credit upon the fraternity.

Hubbard is retired from the Johnstown Police Department.
