Collaring funds for two programs

Pets helping pets is the theme of a fundraiser benefiting the community.

The third Bandshell Bark will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at Roxbury Park along Franklin Street in Johnstown.

Proceeds will benefit the Roxbury Bandshell Preservation Alliance and Conemaugh Health System’s pet-therapy program.

Eileen Graham, administrator and marketing director for Amber Springs at LaurelWood Care Center, 100 Woodmont Road, Upper Yoder Township, is event chairwoman.

“We get all ages – from kids with their parents to the elderly,” Graham said. “We get some from Somerset and Ebensburg, too. People love to pamper their pets.”

Graham said there were about 80 participants last year, and she is hoping to top 100 this year.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m. at the bandshell. Participants will receive a goodie bag and a bandanna for each dog.

Registration is $20 by Sept. 5 and $25 thereafter.

Employee groups, teams or clubs can participate at a rate of $100 for six walkers.

Teams of six donating more than $200 will receive Bandshell Bark T-shirts for all six members.

Only those individuals who donate more than $35 will receive a T-shirt.

The walk will begin at the bandshell and continues around the park’s walking trail four times, about 2.5 miles.

At 11:30, the Finish Line Festival will begin with refreshments.

At 12:30, contests will be held.

Prize winners will be announced at 1:30.
