Mountain Days at Prince Gallitzin State Park will be held today through Sunday in and around the park.

New events will include a mini-tractor pull, a pet parade, the Mountain Girl contest, a pig roast and corn boil and a scavenger hunt.

There also will be live entertainment, an open bass tournament and a regatta on the lake.

Fireworks over the lake begin at 10 p.m. Saturday.

Jazz and more

Jazz Along the River will continue with the music of Harold Betters from 6 to 9 tonight at St. Mary’s Pavilion, Fifth and Power streets in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

Along with great jazz, visitors will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with members of the Johnstown Police Department during a two-hour informational session beginning at 4 p.m.

Officer Mike Kanuch said police officers will be at the pavilion to answer questions and display equipment.

Admission is free.

‘Roaring’ YWCA

Visitors can cut a rug during the 1920s-themed Jazz Up the YWCA, the organization’s third annual fundraiser, which will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the YWCA, 526 Somerset St. in the Kernville section of Johnstown.

A Mediterranean-style dinner will be held from 6 to 7, with dancing to the music of Jazz in Your Face beginning at 8.

Guests will need a password to enter the speakeasy-style silent auction on the second floor.

Tickets are $25 a person or $40 for a couple.

Treasured churches

“Cambria City: A Living Treasure,” a photography exhibit by Lauri Apple featuring Cambria City’s churches, will be on display through Aug. 15 at Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, 411 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

Country celebration

A country music concert featuring Diamond Rio and Chris Higbee Project will be held at 1 and 6 p.m. Sunday at Indiana County Fairgrounds.

Let’s go to the hop

A record hop sponsored by Windber Area Visioning Experience will be held from 7 to 11 tonight in the ballroom at Windber Recreation Park.

Disc jockey Rockin’ Ron-E will provide the music.

There also will be a car/motorcycle cruise-in beginning at 5.

Admission to the record hop is $5, and there is no charge for the cruise-in.

Food and soda will be available for purchase.

Stonewalled comedy

The farce “Stonewall’s Bust” continues through Aug. 3 at Mountain Playhouse, Jennerstown.

Curtain times are 8 p.m. Tuesdays, 2 and 8 p.m. Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Thursdays, 2 and 8 p.m. Fridays, 8 p.m. Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sun- days.

Tickets are $8 to $31 depending on performance day, time, seat location and eligible discounts.

The photography of Richard A. Stoner will be on display at Jenner Art Gallery during the play’s run.

Jazz in the park

Concerts in the Park will continue with Lou Stein’s All That Jazz from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Central Park, downtown Johnstown.

Classic cruise-in

A 1950s Cruise-In will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Somerset Church of the Brethren, 606 Berlin Plank Road, Somerset.

The church’s youth group is sponsoring the cruise-in to raise funds to attend the National Youth Conference in Denver in 2010.

There will be classic cars, a Chinese auction and 1950s-style food and music.

Games will include a Bazooka bubble gum blowing contest, hula hoop contest and jello relay.

Bandshell blast

Polka with Rosie and the Jammers will continue the summer concert series at 5 p.m. Sunday at Roxbury Bandshell, Franklin Street, Johnstown.

Community music

Concerts-on-the-Green will continue with Satrycon and Larry Foust at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Community Arts Center of Cambria County, 1217 Menoher Blvd., Westmont.

Fore for fun

A mini golf family event hosted by The Learning Lamp will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Ranger Miniature Golf Course in Sidman.

A registration fee of $45 per foursome includes a round of miniature golf, one T-shirt per participant, a barbecue lunch, ice cream and prizes for the winning teams.

Proceeds will fund The Learning Lamp’s outreach programs.

All’s fair

The 126th annual Bedford County Fair continues today and Saturday at Bedford County Fairgrounds, West Penn Street, intersection of Route 30 and Interstate 99.

Pay-one-price admission is $9 and parking is $3.

Crafty summer

“Summer in Ligonier,” a two-day arts and crafts show, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday in downtown Ligonier.

Items will include picture frames and wooden cabinets, cross stitch, beaded and handcrafted jewelry, stained glass, wheel-thrown pottery, photography and T-shirts and sweatshirts.

Brassy concert

Allegheny Brass Band will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at the bandstand in Ligonier.

The 30-member band, which is fashioned after the British brass band tradition, plays marches, light classics, solos and popular tunes.

Summer songs

Members of SongWorks, a community of regional songwriters, will participate in a summer concert series at the farmer’s markets held on Fridays in Central Park, downtown Johnstown.

The concerts will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will feature Tim Dabbs today, Ann Bourine and Walt Churchey on Aug. 15, Rachel Allen on Aug. 22 and Denise Baldwin on Sept. 5.

Classical concert

Mendelssohn Piano Trio will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Richland High School Performing Arts Center, One Academic Ave., Richland Township.

Named for classical composer Felix Mendelssohn, the trio plays the works of classical, romantic and modern composers.

The trio is the ensemble-in-residence at Messiah College in Grantham, Cumberland County, and for the Washington, D.C., Embassy Series.

The group includes Peter Sirotin on violin, Ya-Ting Chang on piano and Fiona Thompson on cello.

Fun festival

The 25th annual Seafood & More Festival will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the St. Rochus Parish picnic grove in Tanneryville.

There will be a selection of steamed, fried and grilled seafood as well as hamburgers, hot dogs, kielbasa and pulled pork.

Entertainment will include the Jerry Intihar Band from 12:30 to 5 p.m. and The Conniptions from 5 to 9.

Outdoor concert

Jerry Intihar will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday on the grounds of the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center, Windber, as part of the WindberCare Concert Series.

Intihar plays Slovenian, Croatian, Polish, German and Slovak music as well as country, American standards, oldies and Latin-style numbers.

Tractor hailers

The eighth annual Antique Tractor Festival presented by Stoystown Lions will be held Thursday and Aug. 1-3 at Stoystown Lions Park, Route 30, a half-mile east of Stoystown.

Everything from steam engines to lawn and garden tractors will be on display.

There will be tractor pulls, rides, parades and square dancing.

Sandwiches and dinners will be available for purchase.

Admission is free.

Proceeds benefit the Lions Club’s community projects.

Upcoming

Musical day

Jim Gagnon will present an Australian digeredoo workshop/performance at 4 p.m. Aug. 3 at Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, 411 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

The performance will be followed by a potluck supper at 5, and the monthly drum circle at 5:30.

A donation of $15 will include the dinner.

High school high jinks

Disney’s “High School Musical” will energize the stage Aug. 7-23 at Cresson Lake Playhouse, 279 Shapiro Road, Loretto.

The playhouse will be the first community theater in the region to produce the musical, which is based on the wildly popular made-for-television movie.

Showtimes will be at 8 p.m. except for matinees at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 and 17.

Tickets are $17 for adults and $8 for children.
