Festive Fourth | Light-up nights

The following are fireworks displays in the region in celebration of Independence Day:
Point Stadium, downtown Johnstown, tonight, following a concert by Johnstown Symphony Orchestra at 8.
Idlewild Park, Ligonier, 10 tonight.
Lakemont Park, Altoona, tonight.
DelGrosso Amusement Park, Tipton, tonight.
Berlin Community Grove, 9:45 tonight.
Indiana County Fairgrounds, Mack Park, Indiana, tonight.
Central Pennsylvania Fourth Fest, Bryce Jordan Center, State College, 9:20 tonight.
Carrolltown American Legion Park, 10 p.m. Saturday.
Festive Fourth
Johnstown Symphony Orchestra’s Independence Day Extravaganza will be presented at 8 tonight at Point Stadium, Johns Street, downtown Johnstown.
The free concert will begin with patriotic works by the symphony and will feature songs by two local vocalists – mezzo-soprano Catherine Janisko and tenor Samuel Coco, director of the symphony chorus.
A barrage of cannon fire from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in Johnstown will accompany the orchestra’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
Musical celebration
A free musical celebration will be held from noon to 4 p.m. today at Fort Roberdeau, Sinking Valley, the only Revolutionary War historic site in central Pennsylvania.
Entertainment will feature the Hollidaysburg Youth Folk Ensemble, Heartstrings and Ed McDade.
Exhibits at the park will be open for self-guided tours, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Fifth festivities
Army National Guard’s 28th Infantry Division Concert Band will perform a free post Fourth of July concert at 4 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Park, behind Jackson Township Senior Center, Vinco.
The 55-member band is wrapping up its eastern United States, Canadian and European tour.
The band plays patriotic, jazz, big band and popular music.
Beauty of a Fourth
“Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” will continue to enchant audiences through July 20 at Mountain Playhouse, Jennerstown.
Performance times are 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; 2 and 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; and 3 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets are $8 to $36, depending on performance day, time, seat location and discounts.
During the run of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast,” the paintings of Anita Legler will be on display in the Jenner Art Gallery.
To celebrate the Fourth of July, the playhouse will offer an all-you-can-eat picnic buffet today at nearby Green Gables Restaurant for lunch and dinner, combined with a matinee or dinner performance.
Lunch will be served from noon to 2, followed by the matinee at 2, and the dinner buffet will be served at 5, followed by a performance at 8.
The cost is $20 for lunch and the matinee and $30 for dinner and the evening performance.

Bandshell blast
Race Car Backwards, Truckstop 5 and Rusty Gun Revival will continue the summer concert series at 4 p.m. Sunday at Roxbury Bandshell, Franklin Street, Johnstown.
Race Car Backwards plays alternative rock; Truckstop 5, Americana; and Rusty Gun Revival, roots/Americana.
Peanut(s) gallery
“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” will be presented by western Pennsylvania youth from grades seven to college freshmen today and Saturday at Camp Harmony, Hooversville.
Performing arts campers had one week to learn the show.
Today’s dinner-theater performance will begin with a meal at 5 and the play at 6.
On Saturday, the performance will begin at 6, with doors opening at 5.
Tickets are $25 for today’s dinner theater and $3 for Saturday’s performance.
Proceeds will benefit the Completion Campaign, construction of Camp Harmony’s tabernacle building.
The beat goes on
A monthly drum circle will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, 411 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.
Musicians Rachel Allen and Reggie Harris host the drum circle, which is open to the public.
A donation of $5 is requested.

Youthful art
Artwork for Laurel Arts’ annual Youth Art Exhibit will be accepted until Monday at the gallery at 214 S. Harrison Ave., Somerset.
Young artists from ages 10 through this year’s graduating class may enter.
All media will be accepted, and each artist may submit up to three pieces of art for an entry fee of $4 per piece or $10 for three pieces. Entry fees are non-refundable.
Artwork previously displayed for school shows at Laurel Arts will not be accepted.
Two-dimensional artwork must be framed and ready to hang.

Community music
The Concerts-on-the-Green will continue with the Civic Concert Band at 7 p.m. Wednesday on the grounds of Community Arts Center of Cambria County, 1217 Menoher Blvd., Westmont.
The free series is sponsored by American Federation of Musicians Local No. 41, Westmont and Southmont boroughs and Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Rib revels
Ribfest Somerset will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday along the 500 block of East Main Street, downtown Somerset.
Registration for the rib cook-off, with its two categories of amateur and professional, will be held from 9 to 11 a.m.
There will be children’s games, face painting, a dunk tank, kiddie train and coloring contest held throughout the day.
Entertainment will feature Blackburn Road from 1 to 2, Live Wire from 2 to 3, Dirty Dogz from 3 to 4, Inside Job from 4 to 5, Better Dayz from 5 to 6 and Live Wire from 6 to 7.
Admission is free, and on-site parking is $2.

Post-4th concert
Kiski Valley Community Band will perform “Heritage & Heroes” at 7 p.m. Sunday on the Diamond in Ligonier.
The 50 active members of the volunteer group range in age from 14 to retirement age.
Their music features marches, big band, Broadway selections and popular music.
Reunited Rams
An All-Class Reunion for alumni, faculty and students of Richland Senior High School will be held from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Windber Recreation Park, Route 160.
The pool will be open for use at a cost of $5 for adults and $4 for children.
Music will be provided by Somerhill from 2 to 3:30 and Rockin’ Bob’s DJ Review, “Music You’ll Remember,” from 4 to 10.
There will be a Ram Camp with entertainment and an obstacle course for children throughout the day and a picnic buffet from 4 to 6.

Hoo Dang hoedown
The fifth annual Hoo Dang will be held beginning at noon today through Sunday at Carrolltown American Legion Park.
To celebrate Carrolltown’s sesquicentennial year, the introduction of the Carrolltown history book will be held at 6 tonight.
Tom Watt, a well-known Jimmy Buffett impersonator, will perform at 8:30 tonight.
There also will be refreshments, rides and games, performances by local bands, karaoke, a Wiffle ball tournament and a balloon launch.
A fireworks display will be held at 10 p.m. Saturday.
The annual Fourth of July event is co-sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion Carrolltown Post 506 and Carrolltown Park and Recreation Committee.
Proceeds will benefit Carrolltown American Legion Park.
