In brief | Hoo Dang festival at Carrolltown park
The fifth annual Hoo Dang will be held Thursday through Sunday at Carrolltown American Legion Park.
The annual Fourth of July event, co-sponsored the Sons of the American Legion Carrolltown Post 506 and Carrolltown Park and Recreation Committee, will begin at 6 tonight with refreshments, rides and games.
To celebrate Carrolltown’s sesquicentennial year, the introduction of the Carrolltown history book will be held at 6 p.m. Friday. Tom Watt, a well-known Jimmy Buffett impersonator, will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
A fireworks display will be held at 10 p.m. Saturday.
There also will be performance by local bands, karaoke, a Wiffle ball tournament and a balloon launch.
The festival will begin at noon Friday through Sunday.
Proceeds will benefit Carrolltown American Legion Park.
Musical recitals set at First Lutheran
Free public recitals will be held at noon Tuesdays during July at First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., downtown Johnstown.
The schedule is organist Matt Thomas on Tuesday; soprano Elyse Nan Mendelson, July 15; soprano Kristin Kane, July 22; and violinist Laura Czarnek and pianist Nicholas Czarnek, July 29.
Light luncheons will be served after each recital.
Fireworks displays throughout area
The following are fireworks displays in celebration of Independence Day:
Blair County Ballpark, Altoona, today, following the 7:05 p.m. Curve game; Friday, following the 7:05 game; and Sunday, following the 6:05 game.
The Galleria, Richland Township, 9:30 tonight.
Point Stadium, Johns Street, downtown Johnstown, Friday, following a concert by Johnstown Symphony Orchestra at 8.
Idlewild Park, Ligonier, 10 p.m. Friday.
Lakemont Park, Altoona, Friday.
DelGrosso Amusement Park, Tipton, Friday.
Berlin Community Grove, 9:45 p.m. Friday.
Indiana County Fairgrounds, Mack Park, Indiana, Friday.
Central Pennsylvania Fourth Fest, Bryce Jordan Center, State College, 9:20 p.m. Friday.
Carrolltown American Legion Park, 10 p.m. Saturday.
