  • Homes for the holiday | Berlin club's endeavor aids community
    Select homes in Berlin are decked out in lights and holiday decorations as homeowners gear up for a Home Tour and Bazaar on Saturday and Sunday. The event is sponsored by the Pius Spring Women’s Club of Berlin, a nonprofit organization that supports a variety of community initiatives. Club members have collaborated with four homeowners to decorate for Christmas. Tours will begin at the Community Building at 700 North St. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

  • Twofold fundraiser | Evening of Giving Thanks aids YWCA, local food pantry
    Even after the Thanksgiving holiday, there’s still time to count your blessings. An Evening of Giving Thanks, a fundraiser for the YWCA of Greater Johnstown, will be held Nov. 28 at Ace’s, 316 Chestnut St. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown. Doors will open at 7 p.m., with dancing from 9 to midnight.

  • One artist, two museums | Painter's works on display in Loretto, Altoona
    One museum is not enough to hold all the works of an Altoona artist. “Shirley Goldfarb: The Later Years” will be on display Friday through Feb. 20 at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto, on the campus of St. Francis University. At the same time, Goldfarb’s earlier works, spanning the first five years of her career, will be on display through Feb. 13 at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Altoona.

The Capitol Steps’ members are touring in support of their latest album, “Obama Mia!” as well as their new holiday album, “Barackin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

  • The good and the bad | Symphony orchestra's theme is 'Heroes, Villains and Witches'
    Reality intertwined with imagination will be told through music. “Heroes, Villains and Witches” will be presented by the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, Richland Township.
