Mr. and Mrs. Sam DiFrancesco of Johnstown have noted their 50th wedding anniversary with a backyard summer picnic celebration given by their children, Mathew DiFrancesco, and wife, Anne, Johnstown; Angela, wife of Richard Nichols, Indianapolis; and Christina, wife of Luis Olay, Mexico City.
All 10 grandchildren attended the celebration. They are Nolan, Luke, Daniel and Nathan DiFrancesco; Christopher, Sarah and Annamarie Nichols; and Sofia, Emilio and Maria Olay.
Mr. and Mrs. DiFrancesco were introduced by Mr. DiFrancesco’s best friend on a blind date. They were married Oct. 12, 1963, at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Lititz, Pa., where Mrs. DiFrancesco was born and raised.
Mr. DiFrancesco, a lifelong resident of Johnstown, has been a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church for more than 75 years.
He graduated from the University of Michigan and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He was a former partner and trial lawyer with Gleason, Barbin and Markovitz. He continues to counsel.
Mr. DiFrancesco is on the board of the assistant ministry committee at Our Mother of Sorrows, Westmont Family Council Ministry, Corporators of Grandview Cemetery and Professional Family Care Services – Headstart.
He was an usher for many years at Our Mother of Sorrows. He also served in the National Guard. He is a longtime member of Johnstown Kiwanis.
Mrs. DiFrancesco taught at the YMCA for 24 years as a fitness instructor and was on the board of directors for a number of years.
She also worked at St. Francis University in development, working on a special project. She volunteered with Johnstown Symphony Orchestra for more than 30 years. She was president of the auxiliary and on the board of directors for 21 years and served as president of the board. She was a member of the board of directors for the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.
Mrs. DiFrancesco was instrumental with raising funds to support Our Mother of Sorrows concert series. She volunteered with the JAHA galas and the YWCA Tribute to Women.
She serves as a Eucharistic minister, cantor and sings in the contemporary choir at Our Mother of Sorrows.
The DiFrancescos enjoy traveling, the arts and dancing.
Mr. DiFrancesco loves to sing.
