Lewis couple celebrate 65th date
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edward Lewis of Johnstown have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Lewis and the former Helen Marie Hoffman were married Nov. 7, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Johnstown, by Pastor John Forester.
Mr. Lewis was born May 7, 1917, in Meyersdale, son of Lewis Milton and Winifred Catherine (Spence) Lewis.
Mrs. Lewis was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Johnstown, daughter of Arthur and Gertrude (Smith) Hoffman.
Mr. Lewis worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier and for Lodestar Bus Lines.
He is a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Army Air Corps as a staff sergeant and aircraft mechanic.
Mrs. Lewis worked at National Radiator, which manufactured aircraft parts, during World War II.
She is an avid gardener and served as a hostess for Lodestar Bus Lines.
The Lewises were members of Trinity Lutheran Church and now attend Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
Mr. Lewis, a life member of both churches, has been active in Sunday school, council and choir.
Mrs. Lewis has been a choir member at both churches.
They have been Scout leaders.
The Lewises are the parents of two children: Robbin Hoffman Lewis of Pittsburgh and Brian Edward Lewis of West Lawn, Berks County.
There are two grandchildren.
